FIRE DRILL Thanks to everyone for Wednesday's fire drill. We vacated the building in just over 3 minutes - which was over 1 minute slower than usual - but we do have bubbles at the moment - so it is understandable. The only issues identified were that external fire exits needed to be fully closed (no happy hands). All internal fire doors need to be closed by yourselves. Also, when outside, please make sure you take the register as counting heads isn't always reliable. If there were any additional issues that you are aware of - please let me know. We'll complete another drill next half term.
SUBJECT LEADERSHIP TIME As subject leadership time increases there'll be occasions where books are being looked at, children are being spoken to or discussions with teachers are required. Please note that this is essentially 'evidence' gathering - finding out what we're good at and seeing where improvements can be made.
PHONICS AND READING From next week, Gemma W will be popping into classes to support with phonics or guided reading. It is to ensure we have a whole school approach in place and therefore identifying, what we are doing and where we are going next. Thank you.
SPELLING BEE Please send out the 100 words for the children to learn for their Spelling Bee. Any questions - see Gemma W.
WRITING GENRES Please could you let Gemma W know what English Genres and books you have in mind for Summer 1. I'll be round to discuss and make the order. Thank you!
TA APPRAISAL REVIEWS will be postponed until after Easter. It's manic!
NEW BREAK TIMETABLE starts on Monday. This is because Candice is back in KS1 and we will be having a supply TA1 in Year 3 as more children are returning.
STAFF MEETING, MONITORING AND CPD OVERVIEW is now accessible by clicking here. It lets you know the focus for staff meetings, monitoring and CPD across the year. As it's subject to change this live document will make it easier to share with others. We'll create a link on the bulletin so you always have access.
MYON: please complete ZPDs and send reading books out! One per child. Please check your MyOn assessments and plan in interventions using MyOn as appropriate.
TA1 MEETING To improve the CPD for TA1s across the school we're going to have a meeting after school for one hour every 1st Thursday of each half term (6 per year). As a result, there will be a meeting for all TA1s on Thursday 22nd April after school for one hour. This will be paid.
COVID SECURE Please be aware that we have medically vulnerable children returning, so it is more important than ever to wear your face masks (clinical grade) and not mix with other bubbles in shared areas such as the Blue Room, staff room and resource area etc. (Unless two metres apart and whilst using necessary facilities).
SEMH This is always useful: https://www.annafreud.org/schools-and-colleges/resources/mental-health-toolkit-for-schools/
SIGN OF THE WEEK The sign this week is ‘scared’ or ‘frightened’. Show tension in hand (or pretend to hold a ball in it) and wobble the hand in front of your chest.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Why do pigs make terrible teachers? Because they’re so boaring.
CURRICULUM SITE Have a read of the updated curriculum website. It's been updated considerably over the past couple of months. https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/home
RETRIEVAL PRACTICE WEBSITE Some interesting research papers and practical guidance can be found here: https://www.retrievalpractice.org/library
STAFF DEVELOPMENT There is a shortcut on staff desktops so you can easily review the minutes of staff meetings. All flipcharts shown in staff meetings are also saved on the staff drive here: O:\Staff - Meetings\Flipcharts and Resources for Staff Meetings
PARENTS EVENING Advanced warning that it is now going to take place on Wednesday 28th April between 3.30 and 7.00pm.
LFD TESTING Please continue to take the tests and submit your results to https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result . Karen Slatford needs to know about any tests that come back as inconclusive.
DISPLAYS A polite reminder to please update your displays in the hall and shared areas - thank you!
TWITTER Please keep on tweeting the amazing work you're doing. It's great to see and is a quick way to demonstrate to parents and the school community the work taking place across the school.
COURSE FEEDBACK A reminder for all staff that if you attend a course (even via zoom) please can you complete the online form feeding back on how useful the course was. This is our way at school of tracking the impact of any training attended and also highlights what may need sharing with other staff in the school. The link is below but can also be found as a button near the bottom of every newsletter. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAJYp2DQ8_3IF4CbUroJyoboOayyqBkiFv_BsFl3PWQQmQmA/viewform?usp=sf_link
LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.
Use CPOMS to record anything that is of a concern. However, if you feel it's significant and needs to be dealt with asap, please speak to Jane or Gemma.
If you see someone in school that you don't know - without a pass - please challenge them and ask them who they are!
Make sure you're always wearing a pass!
Remind children that staff have a blue pass and visitors have a sticker.
Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, trips, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.
Mrs Whalen (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
Miss Steele (Deputy DSL)
If they're not available please see Mr Kemp.
✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.
✅ Can’t think of something to write when feeding back?? Remember: QUESTION-ACTION-CHALLENGE
✅ Now Try…Explain why…are two great sentence starters (particularly for Maths) when feeding back.
✅ Plan time for pupils to respond to feedback – make sure you demonstrate this .
