CHRISTMAS CRAFT NIGHT Is on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you to RA for some lovely coordination. Please stay and help if you can, it's until 4.15.
TEACHER ASSESSMENT AND EFFORT GRADES are to be input onto SIMS by next Friday at 5pm please. The effort grades will be reported to parents the following week via the termly autumn report. This term we will not be sending annotated versions of the reading, writing and maths target sheets. However, we will send out blank copies and a covering letter will explain that these are the targets they're working on. Teacher assessments are to be recorded as the level you feel the child will meet by the end of the year if they continue achieving and progressing at their current rate. For example, a Y2 pupil achieving well and understanding everything currently taught could be classed as a 2.5. Also, a Y2 child working beyond expectations and demonstrating an excellent understanding of the curriculum taught so far could be recorded as a 2.7. We're predicting many pupils will be a little lower than their target because of the pandemic. That's OK and recording this will allow us to focus our intervention groups on those pupils.
END OF TERM TESTS As we approach that time where teacher assessments are submitted, you will want to support your judgements with the usual tests. A reminder that WRH end of term tests (arithmetic and reasoning) are to be used for maths and can be found here: https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/assessment/primary-assessment/end-of-term-primary/ . Reading tests for Autumn can be found under the resources section of 'Cornerstones'.
END OF TERM SPELLING The Spellings Bees will take place in classes in the last week of term. From Years 3-6. I'll send out an email with more information on. There's a sheet with all 100 spellings on to send home next week - so the children can have a little practice as this is what you'll be testing them on. They can then mark it themselves and get a certificate. Please look at including children with SEND as a case by case basis.
BEHAVIOUR REMINDER Yellow/red cards must be inputted onto SIMS. This is our way of reporting on behaviour across the school and looking for trends and patterns.
CPOMS A reminder that if you have a conversation with a parent that you feel needs to be recorded use CPOMS. We've added a tab for 'parental communication'. This would usually be something that you may later have to refer to or would be useful for their next teacher to know. Examples of the use of this so far have been persistent falling out of individuals, parents splitting up or a parent complaint.
PANTOMIME For info, we've decided to rearrange the Panto until Easter week. Hopefully by then we'll be able to visit the theatre and it's something the children wont miss out on.
MATHLETICS A reminder from this week's staff meeting to plan in a mathletics lesson and make use of this fabulous resource. We'll be keeping a close eye on those leaderboards.
BAR MODEL CHALLENGE Back for a limited time only and due to popular demand if you can correctly answer the question below using a bar model and place it on MK's desk by 9am on Friday you could win yourself a bottle of Prosecco!
Taz is 5 years older than his brother and 1 year older than his cousin. His uncle is 3 times the age of his cousin and 4 times the age of his brother. How old is Taz?
AMAZON ECHO IN HALL An echo dot has been placed in the hall so that music can easily be played rather than having to log in to the laptop.
TA1 POSITION This week we successfully recruited Mrs Carrena Langan as a new member of our SEND team where she will primarily be supporting MH in Y2. She joins the school on a temporary contract from January.
SEMH Play some music into the classrooms while you work - it's always a mood lifter or can be very relaxing.
SIGN OF THEE WEEK Please practice with your class... 'teacher' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBxFeFslv8A Index on cheek, palms in. Move away from face in two movements
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Remember this weekend, considering the weather, don't get up to snow good, because it's snow joke, and if you end up slipping, I'll say 'I told you snow' and you'll say, 'say it isn't snow', and I'll say 'snow on and snow fourth', and you'll say 'ahhhh icy what you did there'.
CURRICULUM SITE Have a read of the updated curriculum website. It's been updated considerably over the past couple of months. https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/home
RETRIEVAL PRACTICE WEBSITE Some interesting research papers and practical guidance can be found here: https://www.retrievalpractice.org/library
STAFF DEVELOPMENT There is a shortcut on staff desktops so you can easily review the minutes of staff meetings. All flipcharts shown in staff meetings are also saved on the staff drive here: O:\Staff - Meetings\Flipcharts and Resources for Staff Meetings
COURSE FEEDBACK A reminder for all staff that if you attend a course (even via zoom) please can you complete the online form feeding back on how useful the course was. This is our way at school of tracking the impact of any training attended and also highlights what may need sharing with other staff in the school. The link is below but can also be found as a button near the bottom of every newsletter. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAJYp2DQ8_3IF4CbUroJyoboOayyqBkiFv_BsFl3PWQQmQmA/viewform?usp=sf_link
Here's an interesting article about retrieval with some practical strategies that you can use in the classroom or during intervention: https://howthenshouldweteach.wordpress.com/2018/11/24/6-retrieval-practice-strategies-to-use-everyday/
FACE MASKS A reminder that if you wear one of the medically graded face masks when you're around children and staff you don't become part of that bubble and therefore won't need to isolate if a bubble is sent home. We'd suggest that during the final week of this term all staff wear these masks to limit the possibility of having to isolate over Christmas.
TWITTER Please keep on tweeting the amazing work you're doing. It's great to see and is a quick way to demonstrate to parents and the school community the work taking place across the school.
JANE CONSIDINE Has uploaded independent task ideas for the units of work on the site that we subscribe to - check it out :)
STAFF CHRISTMAS CARDS CHARITY IDEA We thought this year under the Covid restrictions it might be nice to have an alternative to handing out Christmas Cards between staff members. Karen S will be putting up a paper tree on the staff room wall along with a little donation box and paper baubles to write your Christmas message on and blue tack on the tree! All donations will go to Cancer research - as we would like to do something close to our hearts for Zack.
ENGLISH Some teachers haven't signed up Mrs Whalen yet, please sign up - thank you :)
TWILIGHTS We have 2 twilight sessions coming up after Christmas. Save the dates: Tuesday 12th January and Monday 18th January. Both dates are from 3.30 - 5.30pm and will be via zoom. The sessions are going to specifically for subject leaders. As a result not all staff are requied to attend. A separate email will be sent with further details. For info, this means that all 5 INSET days for this year are complete.
PE CHALLENGE it's in the hall!
LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.
Use CPOMS to record anything that is of a concern. However, if you feel it's significant and needs to be dealt with asap, please speak to Jane or Gemma.
If you see someone in school that you don't know - without a pass - please challenge them and ask them who they are!
Make sure you're always wearing a pass!
Remind children that staff have a blue pass and visitors have a sticker.
Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, trips, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.
Mrs Whalen (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
Miss Steele (Deputy DSL)
If they're not available please see Mr Kemp.
✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.
