THIS WEEK'S NEWS

HEAD TEACHER APPOINTMENT If you're not aware yet, I was successful and start officially from September 1st. I'm really excited about the future and believe I can continue to build on the happy and successful school we currently have . As a result, the position for Deputy Head will be advertised in the next few weeks. Parent's will be told in tonight's newsletter.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEWS Thank you for getting them complete - because of the madness of the week - they'll be checked and sent out early next week.
LEARNING LOGS Well done to Year 1 and Year 2 who both had half their class complete tasks last half-term. Please keep promoting these to children - especially in KS2 where the amount handed in last half-term was very low, although still of excellent quality.
TEACHER APPRAISALS You will receive an email regarding half yearly appraisal reviews. Teachers will be meeting with MK and there'll be some paperwork to complete beforehand. However, the meeting will be through discussion around progress towards targets.
FAIRTRADE BAKE-OFF Children will bring in cakes on Monday - made from Fair Trade products. Some pupils from the eco team and school council will decide on the winner from each class. The cakes or slices of cake will then be sold after school to parents and pupils for a small donation.
FAIR TRADE FUN DAY Thank you for all your efforts from Wednesday.
HUMANITIES BIG FINISH A reminder that in five weeks we will be presenting their work from Humanities week to each other as a BIG finish.
ROBINWOOD Y5 are off to Robinwood on Friday. Good luck to all the staff that are going....you'll have an amazing time!
WORLD BOOK DAY Children are to come as a character that inspires them. More information about next Thursday will be placed on the staff room board soon. It will include: an author visit, teachers reading to children, mixing of pupils across the school where children work toegther.
MATHS VISIT Thank you for your superb maths lessons yesterday - scroll down for comments. I was incredibly proud of the children and staff and the comments were incredibly positive. Well done.

Maths TRG

Many thanks to everybody for Thursday morning - all teachers were incredibly impressed. After such a 'busy' and 'stressful' week you've pulled it out of the bag! Proves what a great team we have! Well done.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

MATHS INTERVENTIONS I've noticed an increase in the number of pupils having immediate maths intervention over the past few weeks. This is great to see. When sitting with pupils and talking to them at dinner they're telling me the positive impact it's having on their confidence and learning. I've heard some really positive comments about pre-teaching. Keep it up!
READING HALF TERMLY TESTS Please make sure your class complete the appropriate Bug Club test this week and put the results onto SIMS. Use the data to check for any surprises and compare the the bookband the children are on.
OUR VISION FOR MATHS See screenshots below showing a guide for how we would like maths lessons to be structured, although this doesn't need to be followed exactly each lesson - Laura liked how each teacher personalised their lessons unlike her own school which are more regimented.
SCIENCE QUESTIONS You can find copies of past-science SATs questions grouped by topic on O:\Science\SATs Questions. Although there is no Y6 Science SAT anymore, schools can still be chosen by the DfE for children to take part in a 'sampling test' for them to monitor attainment. These questions are also great for sharing during lessons to clarify misconceptions and check children can relate theory to scientific enquiries.

REMINDERS

BEHAVIOR INCIDENTS / YELLOW / RED CARDS Updated cards are now in the staffroom. These can be filled in by any member of staff. Once filled in they need to be passed to the school office who will record the incident onto SIMS. It is the class teachers responsibility to ensure it's given to the office and recorded. The new 'behaviour incident' slips are for those occasions that don't warrant a yellow card but the incident needs logging.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW A new version will soon be up in the staffroom for Spring 2.
SCHOOL KITCHEN Just for information, governors agreed this week to end the contract with P&A from 31st August. As a result, the kitchen will be ran 'in house' with the kitchen staff becoming Parkfield members of staff. The key reason behind this decision was funding. The budget is incredibly tight but this change will help save us a little extra!
DAVE will be leaving us at the end of March. He is moving to St. Edwards, Castleton. Good Luck Dave and well done on the new position. As a result, we're after a new caretaker and the advert is live now with the closing date on the 1st March.
RB COVER Her role is now being covered by Nadia Sheik - welcome to the school Nadia.
POLLING DAY has been confirmed for 2nd May and the school will be closed to pupils. Staff will still have to attend.
BAR MODELLING REMINDER
PE NOMINATION In assembly, the children were shown how to nominate another pupil for a Kids4Kids Award. The award is being run by EdStart - our PE providers. Children nominate a pupil that they feel show commitment and attitude to sport. Nominations can also be received from teachers. There are some lovely prizes that can be won - which will announced just before Easter.
EXTRA WEDNESDAY PE LESSONS are now timetabled into the school calendar once every three weeks for classes. I know it's cold but you must give your pupils the opportunity for the extra PE lesson! Planning is available on the staff drive - alternatively, chat to Jenny and she'll let you know where they're up too.

Health and Safety

LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.

Safeguarding

If you see someone in school that you don't know - without a pass - please challenge them and ask them who they are!
Make sure you're always wearing a pass!
Remind children that staff have a blue pass and visitors have a yellow pass.

Pupil Voice

TURTLE COMPETITION The eco council will continue monitoring the class bins for recycling. A class each will be announced as a winner with the class in the lead at the end of the each half term will get a whole class reward.

Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.

Link for logging incidents on CPOMS. If it's urgent - see Carolyn (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Jane (Deputy DSL) immediately. If they're not available please see MK or GW.

✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.

✅ Can’t think of something to write when feeding back?? Remember: QUESTION-ACTION-CHALLENGE

✅ Library days: Mon – 5/6, Tues – 3/4, Weds – 1/2, Thurs – R.

✅ Now Try…Explain why…are two great sentence starters (particularly for Maths) when feeding back.

✅ Plan time for pupils to respond to feedback – make sure you demonstrate this .

✅ Spellings should be: differentiated, linked to the writing genre if possible and taught using meaningful / fun activities.

✅ Please keep on top of marking - especially cross curricular which should also follow the marking policy.
