THIS WEEK'S NEWS

READING HALF-TERMLY TESTS are to be completed over the next few weeks. The bug club test that children are to complete are on the staffroom wall. Please record results on SIMS.
MATHS TERMLY TESTS are to be completed over the next few weeks. It's the White Rose Hub tests on the staff drive. Each year group has an arithmetic and reasoning paper to complete. Please record results on SIMS.
READING BOOK BAND TRACKER Teachers, you may have noticed a new marksheet appear in SIMS. This is the reading book band tracker that we are going to use to track which book band each child is on at the end of each term. We will remind you each term but it can be completed by yourself or by a TA. We've introduced the tracker to give us an oversight to which books children are on across the school.
CHRISTMAS FAIR thanks to those that have signed up to help out at the Christmas Fair. Any help and support will be much appreciated.
JB ABSENT Joe is going to be off from Monday - Thursday next week. Simon, Michelle, Marc and Liz will be covering through the week. As a result, there's less flexibility with cover less week.
FOOD HYGIENE FOLLOW UP INSPECTION Following a visit on Monday morning, we have now been rated 5 stars! Well done to Sarah and the team.
CHRISTMAS SERVICE This year we're combing the KS2 music concert into the church service at All Saints and Martyrs on the last day, where we will be singing a mixture of traditional and modern songs which can be found at N:\Hall IWB Resources\Assembly songs\Christmas\Christmas Service 2018. Year 6 children will be reading at the service.
ECO GARDEN WORKING GROUP Are you interested in becoming a member of our Eco Garden working group? We have successfully been awarded a £10,000 grant to develop an Eco Garden at the school and we want it to become an integral part of the school community and curriculum. However, we need people on board and are looking for those that are enthusiastic and may have knowledge about how to develop the garden. If you’re interested we’re going to have a quick meeting next Monday 3^rd December at 3.30pm in the staffroom.
STAFF ROOM Clean up after yourself. It's not fair to leave bowls, plates and cups for others
CREATIVE WRITING WEEK A huge thanks for this week. It's been a pleasure reading the work being produced and I'm sure the children will have enjoyed reading their work to one another.
NO PENS WEDNESDAY Thanks to all for your efforts on Wednesday. It was an interesting day with a few members of staff and children taken out of their comfort zone! There's a few things we will do differently next time but please let us know your thoughts by completing the quick questionnaire at the bottom of this bulletin.
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS will be handed out today.
TA APPRAISALS Thanks to all TA's for being prepared for appraisals over the past few weeks. Gemma and I have felt they've been productive with some targets being set that will help you all develop personally whilst moving the school forward. Thanks.
2ESKIMOS The online reading test is going to be used by Y1, 2 and 6 initially. Once we've seen the data it produces we will roll it out to other year groups.
Y4 TIMES TABLES CHECK We will be taking part voluntarily in June 2019 and it then becomes statutory from 2020. Children will be given 6 seconds to answer 25 questions each on a computer from the 2-12 times tables, with the harder tables appearing most often. CHRISTMAS DINNER Please sign up. Dinner will be free for those that sit with their classes on this special day of the year. £5 if you want to sit away from the children!!
FORFEIT DAY The final forfeit day is next Friday. KS1 - Christmas Cupcakes KS2 - Chocolate.
ADVANCED WARNING: TEACHER ASSESSMENTS AND EFFORT GRADES are due onto the system in 3 Fridays! (Friday 14th December). Autumn term reports - with photocopied target sheets will be sent out on Thursday 20th December.
PORTABLE SPEAKER We now have a portable battery for it because the original battery inside has died - speak with SH if you want to be shown how to attach/charge it.
LINK GOVERNORS As it was mentioned in Wednesday's staff meeting, I thought I'd let you know that the link governors for different areas are as follows:

TEACHING AND LEARNING

STAFF MEETING next week is internal writing moderation. We're going to be looking at writing produced over creative writing week and asking whether progress is evident across the school. Can all teachers please bring two pieces of writing (one from a child that achieved expected last year (e.g. 1.5, 2.5, 3.5...etc) and one from a greater depth writer).
MONITORING Maths and writing target sheets are going to be looked at by MK and GW next week to see how it's going across Autumn term. Teacher's please have targets to hand when asked.
SIP AND ACTION PLANS Thanks to all staff for their input into this week's staff meeting by sharing action plans for the year.
TEACHER CPD For all this half term, every Thursday, we've organised for teachers to visit Boarshaw. You'll be visiting the corresponding class and we hope the visit allows you to share ideas with the Boarshaw teachers. They'll be joining us in the Spring. Don't forget to complete a 'visit feedback' form.

@PIRAMIDDWRITING Please continue to tweet examples of writing to share across the collaborative - particularly during creative writing week.
DISCRETIONARY LEAVE It is vital that you fill in any paperwork requesting any time off as soon as possible. This helps us keep track of discretionary leave and plan cover if required.
NO PHOTOGRAPHS ON PERSONAL EQUIPMENT Although it rarely happens, to protect ourselves can we ensure we don't take photographs using our personal mobile phones. We are amending our policy in light of some information from the local authority. It will ensure that we are all safeguarded against allegations and although it can be a hassle having to use iPads at sporting fixtures/trips/residentials...etc it will help protect us all. We will just have to upload photos to Twitter when we get back from school or use our mobile phones as a 'hotspot' if we want to send the images instantly.
SPENDING A reminder that we are having to be incredibly frugal at the minute.
STAFF DROP INS There is now a link near the bottom of this bulletin for staff to record drop ins. You no longer have to record on paper. This will help us keep things collated.
EARLY BIRDS AND BUSY BEES If a parent requests any changes to bookings made for Early Birds of Busy Bees please send them to the office to organise. For example, if they tell you they don’t need Busy Bees that day then they will still be charged as they need to give two weeks’ notice.
YELLOW AND RED CARDS need to be recorded on SIMS. Please speak to MK if you require any support.

Inclusion

A new 'intimate care' policy has been written recently and is available on the staff drive.
If you have any concerns regarding IEP's please speak to Gemma asap.

Health and Safety

LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.

✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.

✅ Can’t think of something to write when feeding back?? Remember: QUESTION-ACTION-CHALLENGE

✅ Library days: Mon – 5/6, Tues – 3/4, Weds – 1/2, Thurs – R.

✅ Now Try…Explain why…are two great sentence starters (particularly for Maths) when feeding back.

✅ Plan time for pupils to respond to feedback – make sure you demonstrate this .

✅ Spellings should be: differentiated, linked to the writing genre if possible and taught using meaningful / fun activities.

✅ Please keep on top of marking - especially cross curricular which should also follow the marking policy.
