- CHILDREN IN NEED Thank you in advance to Joe for providing this afternoon's entertainment. We are looking forward to it! Huge thanks also to Debs and the school council for all their efforts over the past few weeks.
- TA APPRAISALS will be taking place over the next two weeks with GW and MK. Appraisals should take no longer than 30 minutes and will involve a discussion about last year's targets and any professional/personal development for the coming year. There's no need to prepare anything and unlike teachers, they're not linked to pay!! Please sign up on the relevant timetable displayed in the staff room.
- MOVIE NIGHT If you're able to support on Tuesday night, please sign up. We will have a number of volunteers from the PTA but it does help if members of staff are able to help.
- LOCK DOWN DRILL is going to take place on Tuesday morning. However, we will be letting children know during Monday's assembly about what will happen and what they will hear.
- MATHS DROP-IN for Y1-6 parents is taking place next Wednesday and Thursday. We're experts at this now!! Parents will come in for a short presentation at 9am and will be in class from approx. 9.10 - 10am. The focus is going to be mental calculations. These can be taken from the Maths passports!! You could for example complete a number of different activities including: timetables activities, RaPaCoDaNumbo, counting on, doubling/halving...etc. You may complete tasks on whiteboards so that you don't have to get maths books out! If you have any questions, please speak to MK. The intended outcome is for parents to:
- Know many of the expectations for their child's year group in Maths (e.g. 2, 5 and 10 times tables)
- Have some ideas of activities that they can do with their child at home
- Work alongside their child practising mental calculations.
- 2ESKIMOS You may see TA's over the next few week's trialing a new reading assessment on the ipads. Once we are used to the system we'll show everyone how to carry out the assessments. They can be used from Reception to Year 6 and they give a reading age, reading rate, book bad and whether they're reading below, at or above age related expectations.
- Y4 TIMES TABLES CHECK We will be taking part voluntarily in June 2019 and it then becomes statutory from 2020. Children will be given 6 seconds to answer 25 questions each on a computer from the 2-12 times tables, with the harder tables appearing most often. If you want to have a try yourself, click the link under website of the week!
- IEP'S Please ensure new/updated IEP's are written and have been shared with parents.
- MISS BANKS will be joining us in Y3 on a Thursday morning.
- FLU VACCINATIONS There will be some disruption on Wednesday afternoon with flu vaccinations. We will ask the school nurses to collect a class at a time. It's going to be for children in Rec - Y5.
- FORFEIT DAY The first of 3 forfeit days is next week. Please remind your children! KS1 - £1 shop toy, KS2 - Toiletries or Secret Santa room donations.
- CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas and his wife Sarah on the new arrival of baby Olivia Florence Shearman.

- STAFF MEETING Thanks for your feedback from Wednesday's moderation and for those that tweeted on the new @PiraMiddwriting feed! We will again be repeating something similar in May with 'expected' levels of writing.
- STAFF MEETING Next week: Planning for no pens Wednesday and creative writing week.
- TEACHER CPD For all this half term, every Thursday, we've organised for teachers to visit Boarshaw. You'll be visiting the corresponding class and we hope the visit allows you to share ideas with the Boarshaw teachers. They'll be joining us in the Spring. Don't forget to complete a 'visit feedback' form.
- MATHS I do, we do, you do…a reminder from staff meeting.
- SCIENCE ENQUIRY The 5 lines of scientific enquiry are: Research, Pattern seeking, Observations over time, Identifying and classifying and Fair Testing. The question you need to ask each lesson is - which of these am I covering?

REMINDERS
- DISCRETIONARY LEAVE It is vital that you fill in any paperwork requesting any time off as soon as possible. This helps us keep track of discretionary leave and plan cover if required.
- NO PHOTOGRAPHS ON PERSONAL EQUIPMENT Although it rarely happens, to protect ourselves can we ensure we don't take photographs using our personal mobile phones. We are amending our policy in light of some information from the local authority. It will ensure that we are all safeguarded against allegations and although it can be a hassle having to use iPads at sporting fixtures/trips/residentials...etc it will help protect us all. We will just have to upload photos to Twitter when we get back from school or use our mobile phones as a 'hotspot' if we want to send the images instantly.
- SPENDING A reminder that we are having to be incredibly frugal at the minute.
- STAFF DROP INS There is now a link near the bottom of this bulletin for staff to record drop ins. You no longer have to record on paper. This will help us keep things collated.
- EARLY BIRDS AND BUSY BEES If a parent requests any changes to bookings made for Early Birds of Busy Bees please send them to the office to organise. For example, if they tell you they don’t need Busy Bees that day then they will still be charged as they need to give two weeks’ notice.
- YELLOW AND RED CARDS need to be recorded on SIMS. Please speak to MK if you require any support.
Inclusion
- A new 'intimate care' policy has been written recently and is available on the staff drive.
- If you have any concerns regarding IEP's please speak to Gemma asap.
Health and Safety
- LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
- Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.
Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.
Complete this online form to request time to for subject leadership. Marc or Carolyn will respond to any requests.

✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.
✅ Can’t think of something to write when feeding back?? Remember: QUESTION-ACTION-CHALLENGE
✅ Library days: Mon – 5/6, Tues – 3/4, Weds – 1/2, Thurs – R.
✅ Now Try…Explain why…are two great sentence starters (particularly for Maths) when feeding back.
✅ Plan time for pupils to respond to feedback – make sure you demonstrate this .
✅ Spellings should be: differentiated, linked to the writing genre if possible and taught using meaningful / fun activities.
✅ Please keep on top of marking - especially cross curricular which should also follow the marking policy.
