WORLD BOOK DAY- THURSDAY 4th MARCH - ADVANCED WARNING! Dressing Up: we would like our children and staff to have the opportunity to dress up this year whether at home or at school. They can dress up as a book character, in any fancy dress, or just in their own clothes (non-uniform).Lessons: the timetable for the lessons will be different for that day and will be off the usual timetable. New Zoom links and timings will be uploaded on to Showbie etc for that specific day, nearer to the time. Each teacher/staff member will be asked to read a story for ten minutes of their choice, if they want to. There will be a sign up sheet and any year group can access it from home. School classes will want to choose a couple to watch that day too. The work set for the day will be to create your own books. They will have a stimulus in class, will create a short story, a front cover, illustrations etc etc. More detailed info to be given at the time.
LEAFLETS have been made by Miss Steele for the children. They are child friendly safeguarding and child friendly anti-bullying. They will go next to the worry boxes, please have a copy in class and promote them/read them out to the children/share as part of a lesson... Whichever suits your class.
'LOVE' FILM As part of Year1's learning next week, we are going to dance to the song LOVE by Nat "king" Cole, if anyone would like to send Mrs Price a short clip of them or their class dancing she would be happy to add it in. 🙂 It could be a short video clip taken on the ipad, of the class dancing in class and over zoom by Wednesday.
TRAINING ON THURSDAY laptops needed - bring own if possible. Space will potentially be limited on the day so we'll have to be a little flexible. The link should be emailed out by real trust a couple of days before the training.
SWAP PLAYGROUNDS Please remind children in 3/4 and 5/6 at breaktimes (not lunchtimes) to swap their half of the playground each Monday. Thank you!
CHARLOTTE BRADSHAW will begin her TA1 position next week to cover Natalie's maternity leave. I'm sure that we will give her a very warm welcome. You'll notice that Natalie will still be in school but she's not going to be working face-face with children due to covid.
KARLY TO RETURN after half term. We look forward to giving her a very warm welcome back. Her role has been 'tweaked' to reflect the current needs of the school, and alongside supporting 1:1 she will also be supporting in Reception which will include the delivery of phonics.
TA2 POSITION We have to 'officially' advertise the vacant TA2 position that will be available from Easter following Maria's completion of her Apprenticeship. The TA2 position is available on a temporary contract from Easter until September and will involve working in the Y3 class. Anyone interested, please speak to Marc for more details.
ZPD BOOKS IN BASKETS many books have been labelled with the ZPD level and have started appearing in baskets in classrooms. When they have been sorted through, the children will be able to choose a book within their ZPD range. They can then log on to 'accelerated reader' (not myON) and complete a quiz when they have finished the book. We will formerly introduce this to the children when we have more books ready, they won't be aware that this is available yet. If you want children to begin exploring the lovely new books then that is fine - just please return them to the baskets for now, as the team are working very hard to get them all sorted. Thank you!
FRIDGE, KITCHEN AND STOCK CUPBOARD The stock cupboard is looking beautiful - thanks to Amie, please keep it tidy. Also, please continue to clean up in the kitchen, and if you have open food in the fridge, then please put a lid on it. Thank you!
WELLBEING The LA have asked us to advertise 'Crisis messenger for School Staff'. SIGN OF THE WEEK ‘tablet’ Hold out open palm face up and use index finger on other hand to make a swipe action across the palm towards you. https://www.facebook.com/TheMakatonCharity/videos/tablet-device-makaton-sign-of-the-week/450186015471700/
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK When children and adults read, it really expands their knowledge. I just read a book about Helium. It was so good, I couldn’t put it down.
CURRICULUM SITE Have a read of the updated curriculum website. It's been updated considerably over the past couple of months. https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/home
RETRIEVAL PRACTICE WEBSITE Some interesting research papers and practical guidance can be found here: https://www.retrievalpractice.org/library
STAFF DEVELOPMENT There is a shortcut on staff desktops so you can easily review the minutes of staff meetings. All flipcharts shown in staff meetings are also saved on the staff drive here: O:\Staff - Meetings\Flipcharts and Resources for Staff Meetings
SHOWBIE AND ZOOM Please continue to check when children have been missing from Zoom lessons and if they have not uploaded any work to Showbie. If this is the case then they are 'missing' so please alert Gemma or Jane.
LOCAL WALKS These have been very successful so far. Please arrange with your class to go out if they haven't done already. It can be stand alone and doesn't have to link.
VALENTINES ZOOM There will be a valentines zoom on the last night of term, it's something to look forward to and should be a giggle. If you would like to host a game on the night, then just let Gemma know :)
MATHLETICS Remember to plan a Mathletics lesson in- a very useful resource :)
NATALIE is available for displays and admin jobs around school. She'd very very grateful to be kept busy.
TWITTER Please keep on tweeting the amazing work you're doing. It's great to see and is a quick way to demonstrate to parents and the school community the work taking place across the school.
COURSE FEEDBACK A reminder for all staff that if you attend a course (even via zoom) please can you complete the online form feeding back on how useful the course was. This is our way at school of tracking the impact of any training attended and also highlights what may need sharing with other staff in the school. The link is below but can also be found as a button near the bottom of every newsletter. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAJYp2DQ8_3IF4CbUroJyoboOayyqBkiFv_BsFl3PWQQmQmA/viewform?usp=sf_link
LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.
Use CPOMS to record anything that is of a concern. However, if you feel it's significant and needs to be dealt with asap, please speak to Jane or Gemma.
If you see someone in school that you don't know - without a pass - please challenge them and ask them who they are!
Make sure you're always wearing a pass!
Remind children that staff have a blue pass and visitors have a sticker.
Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, trips, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.
Mrs Whalen (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
Miss Steele (Deputy DSL)
If they're not available please see Mr Kemp.
✅ Review, review and review learning throughout a lesson. Keep referring back to LI and SC and how well they’re doing.
✅ Can’t think of something to write when feeding back?? Remember: QUESTION-ACTION-CHALLENGE
✅ Now Try…Explain why…are two great sentence starters (particularly for Maths) when feeding back.
✅ Plan time for pupils to respond to feedback – make sure you demonstrate this .
