THIS WEEK'S NEWS

• BAR MODELLING Across the school, a key focus over the next two terms is going to be supporting and increasing the number of children working at a greater depth in maths, To do this every class is to teach a selected group of pupils during intervention time at least once per week. The focus will be on using bar modelling to solve word problems. The groups will be taught be teachers and/or TA's. More details and training will come in the next few weeks, however the current plan is as follows:
  • WB 14th Jan: Targeted KS2 pupils complete a baseline assessment (MK to pass on sheet)
  • WB 21st Jan: Training/reminder for teachers and TA's with bar modelling resources
  • Spring and Summer: One session per week taught to targeted pupils
  • WB 23rd April: Review of intervention/additional support and training (if required)
  • WB 8th July: Targeted pupils complete assessment to see impact of intervention.
• CJP - FOR INFO Carolyn tendered her resignation from the post of Headteacher at Parkfield Primary School with effect from 31^st August 2019 and this resignation has been accepted. The governors are now beginning the process of appointing a new head, which should hopefully be completed by the end of February.
• CURRICULUM OVERVIEWS Thanks for completing these and making any amendments requested. They will be sent to parents over the weekend.
• LEARNING LOGS Should have now been sent to all pupils across the school. Thanks for getting them onto the staff drive. Please remember to keep reminding your classes about learning logs.
• TWEETING Please keep tweeting lots of the exciting lessons and activities that the children are doing. Parents love to see the tweets and they're great evidence of what's happening in each class.
• RECEPTION PARENT DROP INS Parents in reception class are able to drop in on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday starting next week from 8.45am for a maximum of 20 minutes. This is to strengthen those home-school links
• EXTRA WEDNESDAY PE LESSONS are now timetabled into the school calendar once every three weeks for classes. I know it's cold but you must give your pupils the opportunity for the extra PE lesson! Planning is available on the staff drive - alternatively, chat to Jenny and she'll let you know where they're up too.
• PUPIL PROGRESS MEETINGS Thanks to all teachers for preparing well for these meetings. It's great that so many of you came to me with changes already in place and interventions already planned. If you haven't already done so, please pass on the information to the TA's in your class.
• ECO GARDEN We've had the plans submitted and we'll soon be the owners of a 30ft polytunnel! Work on the area at the end of the playing fields is due to start at the end of this month.
