THIS WEEK'S NEWS

• TEACHER APPRAISALS Will be taking place over the next week and the first week back. There will be a timetable going up in the staff room. Appraisals will include discussions about last year's targets and how you are meeting the teaching standards. Evidence isn't essential but it can help when evidence is presented to the Governing Body pay committee when applying for pay progression.
• FRIDAY ACHIEVEMENT & SCIENCE SHOWCASE ASSEMBLY is going to take place next Friday at 10am. Break time will most certainly be late. For the Science section of the assembly can classes present to the school their learning for the week or the term. I don't mind if classes want to 'double' up because they've been working on the same topics. Please make it exciting as possible and don't get the whole class up to say a few lines each or we'll be there for ages! Maximum of 5 minutes per class - 10 minutes if 2 classes are presenting.
• #SCIENCE next week on Twitter so we can change our Science display please.
• SCIENCE TEACHER EFFORT GRADES Teachers, I know they're not due until December, but it's probably a good idea to complete these now as you won't be teaching Science again before Autumn term reports.
• LEARNING LOGS Are due in on Monday. They're going to be shared in the usual special assembly on Thursday - with a parent walk around and then class walk around. The two classes with the most learning logs brought back in can have an extra 30 minutes break on Thursday or Friday (supervised by their class teacher).
• SPENDING A reminder that we are having to considerably tighten our belts. Please be aware that food costs and consumables (such as pens, pencils and laminating pouches) are rising and we're going to have to look at ways to spend less in the future. Please be mindful of this when making any orders or asking for resources.
• PARENTS' EVENING went really well with some incredibly positive feedback across the school about how everyone has settled in.
• READING HALF-TERMLY TESTS are to be completed next week. Don't forget to record the results onto SIMS. Tests to be completed are up in the staff room.
• STAFF MEETING Next week is the opportunity for staff to get together in their teams and plan topic for next half term. Lets have some great WOW moments to get children engaged and exciting BIG finishes so that the children can show off their work. This is a good time to start curriculum overviews!
• REMEMBER-REMEMBER DAY Just advanced warning that Wednesday 7th November will be a history theme day linked to World War 1.
• WEAR IT PINK DAY next Friday - wear pink and donate money in support of breast cancer.
• NEW DINING HALL TABLES should be arriving this week. They'll have chairs attached to them making the setting up of the hall a little easier.
• FLU JABS for staff are going to take place the first week after half term. KB is sending out the consent forms to those members of staff that would like a flu jab.
• NO PHOTOGRAPHS ON PERSONAL EQUIPMENT Although it rarely happens, to protect ourselves can we ensure we don't take photographs using our personal mobile phones. We are amending our policy in light of some information from the local authority. It will ensure that we are all safeguarded against allegations and although it can be a hassle having to use iPads at sporting fixtures/trips/residentials...etc it will help protect us all. We will just have to upload photos to Twitter when we get back from school or use our mobile phones as a 'hotspot' if we want to send the images instantly.
