MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR Thank you for all of your hard work through this difficult year. Your dedication to Parkfield has made such as difference for our children and our community. We have had overwhelming positive feedback from parents during this last term about how well cared for their children are and how we have made school feel normal and happy.
REMINDERS Please update the curriculum site for your class by the first Friday back. Learning logs are also due out on this day.
ASSESSMENT DATA ONTO SIMS Huge thanks to everyone for getting the range of information onto SIMS over the past week.
RETRIEVAL PRACTICE BOOK I hope you enjoy the book given out today on retrieval practive. You do not need to read it over Christmas but when you get back it does have some great practical examples of simple retrieval practice in the classroom. We'll be discussing this in the new year!
PUPIL PROGRESS MEETINGS Thank you for attending. They were all very positive and staff have a clear idea of where to take their teaching next. Well done everyone.
TWILIGHTS We have 2 twilight sessions coming up after Christmas. Save the dates: Tuesday 12th January and Monday 18th January. Both dates are from 3.30 - 5.30pm and will be via zoom. The sessions are going to specifically for subject leaders. As a result not all staff are required to attend. A separate email will be sent with further details. For info, this means that all 5 INSET days for this year are complete.
BAR MODEL CHALLENGE Congratulations to last week's winner. This week's challenge is below. If you can correctly answer the question below using a bar model and place it on MK's desk by 9am on Friday you could win yourself a bottle of Prosecco!
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Abbie has 4 times the amount of money as Ben. Chris has quarter the amount of money that Ben has. Dave has 25% more than Abbie. If Ben and Chris have a total of £30 altogether how much more money than Abbie does Dave have?
SEMH 12 days of positivity! https://www.mentallyhealthyschools.org.uk/media/2292/12-days-of-positivity.pdf Think with optimism about the future, by incorporating 12 days of activities and thoughts to promote positivity. Display this in your classroom and add it to your timetable so that you keep a daily focus on positive thinking. For example: Today everyone think of a phrase to "big themselves up". They can then write it on a Post-it and stick it on a display, on their desk, or take it home to remind them of their positive attributes.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK My New Year's Resolution is to break my New Year's Resolutions. That way, I succeed at something! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Everyone.
CURRICULUM SITE Have a read of the updated curriculum website. It's been updated considerably over the past couple of months. https://curriculum.parkfieldprimary.com/home
RETRIEVAL PRACTICE WEBSITE Some interesting research papers and practical guidance can be found here: https://www.retrievalpractice.org/library
STAFF DEVELOPMENT There is a shortcut on staff desktops so you can easily review the minutes of staff meetings. All flipcharts shown in staff meetings are also saved on the staff drive here: O:\Staff - Meetings\Flipcharts and Resources for Staff Meetings
SUBJECT LEADER QUESTIONNAIRE MK has sent a questionnaire to all subject leaders. Please complete.
COURSE FEEDBACK A reminder for all staff that if you attend a course (even via zoom) please can you complete the online form feeding back on how useful the course was. This is our way at school of tracking the impact of any training attended and also highlights what may need sharing with other staff in the school. The link is below but can also be found as a button near the bottom of every newsletter. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAJYp2DQ8_3IF4CbUroJyoboOayyqBkiFv_BsFl3PWQQmQmA/viewform?usp=sf_link
Here's an interesting article about retrieval with some practical strategies that you can use in the classroom or during intervention: https://howthenshouldweteach.wordpress.com/2018/11/24/6-retrieval-practice-strategies-to-use-everyday/
FACE MASKS A reminder that if you wear one of the medically graded face masks when you're around children and staff you don't become part of that bubble and therefore won't need to isolate if a bubble is sent home. We'd suggest that during the final week of this term all staff wear these masks to limit the possibility of having to isolate over Christmas.
TWITTER Please keep on tweeting the amazing work you're doing. It's great to see and is a quick way to demonstrate to parents and the school community the work taking place across the school.
PE CHALLENGE it's in the hall!
LADDERS Putting up a display? Please make sure you’re using ladders and not chairs and tables.
Seen anything of a CONCERN? Please fill in the appropriate form in the staff room and hand in to the office as soon as possible.
Use CPOMS to record anything that is of a concern. However, if you feel it's significant and needs to be dealt with asap, please speak to Jane or Gemma.
If you see someone in school that you don't know - without a pass - please challenge them and ask them who they are!
Make sure you're always wearing a pass!
Remind children that staff have a blue pass and visitors have a sticker.
Keep completing these online forms to feedback on courses, trips, visits and drop ins. This includes visits to other schools, collaborative groups…etc. It helps us keep an impact on any CPD that takes place.
